Shimla, May 3

Residents of Shimla faced frequent power cuts following a severe hailstorm that lasted nearly three hours. The fluctuating tension kept residents on their toes.

The power supply was erratic and people in some pockets were forced to turn off their electronic devices to avoid damage. The supply was very unreliable and the bulbs and tubes were flickering. Hail interrupted power supply in Sanjauli, Totu, Khalini, Kasumpti and Bemloe areas which plunged into darkness. However, Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) personnel were on their toes and were on the ground even during the hailstorm.

“Due to low voltage, the gas station in Vikas Nagar has become non-functional. I had to wait almost half an hour to refuel my vehicle,” Rahul said. The power supply was very erratic as the electricity came and went after a few minutes,” said Devender from Kasumpti.

When contacted, HPSEB Managing Director Pankaj Dadwal said, “We have not received any complaints about voltage fluctuations and no major outages have been reported in the city. Power that was broken in some pockets has been restored. The Malyana feeder broke down but it too was later restored, he added.
