The Vice President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, led a delegation to engage the management of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) on Ghana’s impressive turnaround in management electricity in the country.

According to him, his government is ready to learn from Ghana on how it has handled some of the challenges in the energy sector, as well as how to stabilize it.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, the Vice President of Sierra Leone explained that the appeal to the Ghanaian government and the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) is to help them transform their electricity sector. ‘energy.

He added that when this mission is accomplished, their country will also attract Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) and also boost their economy.

Dr Jalloh said while his government was doing its best to transform the energy sector, there was still work to be done.

“We are in Ghana to engage with colleagues, especially colleagues who are part of the electricity distribution supply chain generation. A few years ago when we took power in 2018, one of the key sectors that the government of Sierra Leone wanted to transform was the energy sector… As a government that wants to open up its sectors, countries, attract foreign direct investment, stimulate the productive sector, it is very important that we concentrate and invest enormously in the energy sector. We did it gradually under the direction of the Minister of Energy.”

“When we arrived the energy level in Sierra Leone was 16%, today, 3 years later, we are at 31% and we know we still have to do more…we are eligible for a compact in 2020 and we realized that Ghana is in the second compact so we are in Ghana to share experiences with our Ghanaian colleagues especially in the energy sector We are here to learn from the great work what you did and also to learn about the challenges and how you managed to overcome some of those challenges,” he added.

The Managing Director of GRIDCo, Dr. Ebenezer Essienyi, on his part, said his team is ready to help and guide the Sierra Leonean delegation to learn in the energy sector.

He assured them of the challenges they were facing, how they resolved the situation and how to maintain their networks for a stabilized energy sector.

“It is a great pleasure to have you here as we embark on the ways and means for Sierra Leone to learn the lessons that we have gone through in our electricity sector so that you do not make the mistakes that we have committed. We are ready to guide you in all aspects of our work. The pitfalls we’ve fallen into, what we’ve learned, and what we need to do to move forward. Then also based on our knowledge of the industry for you, based on the transco CLG project and the need for you to acquire the knowledge of planning, maintenance, we are ready. Just give us a call and we’ll be happy to come and assist your team in setting it up,” he said.

The Vice President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, and his delegation visited some of GRIDCo’s facilities to familiarize themselves with its operations.
